The Science of Slips
The Science of Slips
Slips occur when there isn’t enough grip between your foot and the floor surface. This lack of traction is especially dangerous when the floor is wet, oily, dusty, or worn smooth from regular use. Common causes of slips include:
- Smooth or polished surfaces like tiles, marble, and concrete
- Water, spills, or cleaning residue left on floors
- Footwear with poor grip
- Ramps, slopes, or uneven ground
- Outdoor decks and steps exposed to rain, moss, or algae
- Incorrect cleaning or maintenance

How SlipSafe solves it
SlipSafe products are designed to dramatically improve traction, even in challenging conditions. Our solutions work in two ways:
- Anti-slip treatments – creating microscopic texture on the surface to boost grip without changing how it looks.
- Anti-slip coatings – bonding clear, coloured, or rubberised layers that increase friction and resilience.
Some solutions are invisible and preserve the original finish, while others add colour or a new surface layer. All are independently tested to New Zealand Standards and proven to significantly reduce the risk of slips.
By targeting the exact causes of slippery conditions, SlipSafe makes homes, workplaces, and public areas safer for everyone.
